JORDAN CADIOT
On this page, "in situ", you'll find pictures of amblypygids observed in their natural habitats, with images of the biotop and a brief description (light, temperature, humidity, time...)
They are observations made and shared by other people who gave me the authorizations to use their pictures on my website, the descriptions are theirs also.
One day, I, will complete this page!

"sur des roches comme cela, il y avait des especes de grillons aussi dans le meme endroit de toutes tailles"
"pour le biotope a proprement parler, aambiance seche, aucune source de lumiere dans les endroits on ou les a trouvés, temperatures dans les 22/23°C je pense, pas d'aeration"

Phrynus sp.

"I found two. One male and one female. They were found on May 24th
2018 at 6pm at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens just south of
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was about 29 degrees Celsius. They were next
to a creek that was barely flowing and covered inleaf litter. They were on
the side of rocks about the size of a foot between the rockand the leaf
litter on the ground."

"I have seen 5 or 6, all under pieces of wood inhabited by termites. At Singapore."
"At 3pm, very humid and warm. I found them by flipping pieces of wood with mud and termites under it".

Images and description from Johann Szy
Phrynus sp.
"Temperatures ranged from 28-29 degrees during the day to about 23-24 degrees during the night. The humidity was rather high, usually around 80% during the day and it could climb up to 100% during the night or in early morning because there are frequent heavy rains. The environment in which I found these amblypygids was a forest very close to the coast. At first I lifted big stones to hope to find the local tarantula (Phormictopus cancerides). That’s how I found amblypygids every time, lifting stones. The ground was composed of a mixture of soil and sand. I found others also under stones at the edge of the forest in a kind of wild dump."

Heterophrynus longicornis

In a cave in French Guiana, on the road to Kaw.
More than thirty individuals in total (during the day around 5:30 p.m.), adults, juveniles, males, females including one with eggs, leftover exuviae and complete exuviae with the specimen that had just molted.
Huge numbers of ephippigeres (grasshoppers), on the ground as on the rock. Probably the main prey of amblypygids there.
Other animals observed in the cave: A large group of bats (several hundred I think), spiders, opilions, lizards (Neusticurus rudis), small frogs, buffalo toads (Rhinella marina), I also found a tarantula exuviae.
Cave located in the middle of the forest so probably 80% hygrometry at least, it oozed in some areas. Several openings at different places so a minimum of ventilation, it was not confined.
Temperature about 20°C in the morning, 28°C-30°C on a clear day, if not about 25°C.
Walls and ceiling enormously porous, with gaps, circular cavities on the whole ceiling. Earthy, reddish soil with rocks.
The vast majority of individuals were very tolerant, they did not run away from the lights and flashes (whether they were observed in the cave or on the trees in the forest). Pregnant female on the defensive, nervous, pedipalps open.

Heterophrynus alces

An individual observed during a meal, at night. On the road to Kaw in a path, about a metre of apparent land, his lodge was right next to it, a hole in the ground with two juvenile specimens (different stages) observed inside.
Another individual observed about a hundred meters from the first, on his trunk. Fresh molted (hence the color).
About 23°C-25°C, I think, and probably at least 80% hygrometry.
